Traveling Student Archivist Summer Internship

NOTE: The Traveling Student Archivist Summer Internship is currently on hiatus.

Each summer, the Montana State Historical Records Advisory Board sponsors a Traveling Student Archivist. Graduate students in an archival studies program or information sciences program with archival emphasis are invited to apply. The intern serves up to 400 hours at a Montana institution responsible for archival collection preservation and access. The work may include surveying of records, creation of policies, preparation of disposal requests, creation of inventories, and training of staff and volunteers. The internship comes with a $5,000 stipend.

Past Host Institutions and Projects

  • MonDak Heritage Center  Student Archivist Courtney Kramer worked on the map and oversize collection, completing an inventory, cleaning, mending and flattening materials where appropriate, and stabilizing-rehousing a rich collection of scrapbooks from various service organizations.
  • Frontier Gateway Museum  Student Archivist Courtney Kramer helped staff inventory archival collections, pulled the collections together into a single research and storage area, and established workflow and templates in Pastperfect to catalog the collections. She also processed two small manuscript collections.
